Love is the law

Updated: Oct 17, 2022

Love is in the air today with Moon in Pushya nakshatra; the star of devotion. All planets produce love in different ways however when we think of Love we think of Venus because just like us; she is born out of the primordial waters like us, she represents the rapid evolution and creativity of human beings (her name Narayani means shakti of Narayan whos is the operating force of the universe) and there is a principle of equality within her unconditional love. The 1st house is us recognizing our will, the burst of light that creates our very own little universe but the 7th house is the tying of the universe with someone else's (quite literally in the Hindu marital ceremony where the special ancestral cloth of the bride and groom are tied together) which indicates endless cycles of life and death.

There is no doubt that creativity can be manifested through just the self and one can be full of the nectar of life when alone however every theory of religion and spiritualism talks about fusion with the divine or the unification with the threads of the universe and time to achieve liberation. Saturn and Venus are essential planets that take us towards that Godliness and unite us with it which is why it is also repeatedly said in Thelema that Love is the Law. Saturn’s ability to create boundaries around Venus’s force and virility helps in directing that virility and beauty into appropriate ways instead of the energy being lost or wasted. Venus gains directional strength in the 4th house (Cancer Rashi in Kaal purush Kundli) which is the house of unconditional love and comforts however an excessive focus on the matters of the 4th house can lead to us never growing and blooming on our own and depending on the comforts and attachments represented by the smothering force of that house which Ashlesha nakshatra deals with as it is the gandanta/testing point in one's life whether they're able to establish an independent kingdom of their own or not by snipping the mental umbilical cord.

The expansion of one's will takes within the 5th house of intelligence and mental acuity however the use and efforts of this are seen in the 10th and 11th houses of karma and the collective consciousness both ruled by Saturn. The10th house also represents the law one abides by in a collective which reduces deviancy and transmutes the energy of creativity for self to serve the masses which is why these houses are also seen as the houses of capitalism, fame, and reputation in the modern world. Venus in these houses takes on a more servile role due to not only seeing herself as equal to someone but also giving to them and loving them as an equal which opens up the way towards her exaltation point in the 12th house where she is praised by all for more than just her gross form and beauty and what she can do for others.

Sri Lakshmi (Venus) has a very special connection with the number 10 as well (the number essentially is 1/Sun which is the self and the will and the 10th house is the ability to sway people towards the goals of your will) in Odia tradition of India, the story of Lakshmi Purana narrates how Lord Vishnu promised to her father Lord Varuna to tolerate 10 of Sri Lakshmi's transgressions before divorcing her and sending her back to her house. In the Purana, Lakshmi's egalitarian nature and her will are shown when she is thrown out of Jagannath Puri by Lord Balaram (a representation of Sheshnaga/unified Rahu-Ketu) for visiting a chandala/lower caste woman's house. Before Mahalakshmi leaves, she removes all her jewelry and curses Lord Vishnu and his kingdom to be devoid of food and luxury for 12 years until he begs her to feed him in her form as a lower caste woman which removes the taboo of caste-mixing and untouchability.

Saturn is the king of the downtrodden and rebellious and Venus is his sister (Lakshmi also being born in the highest manifestation of Saturn in Uttarabhadrapada nakshatra) as she helps in removing the obstacles for everyone to attain liberation and bliss.

The pashas (bondages) in Devi Mahatmyam that keep us from liberation are known as Ghrina (hatred), Kula (pride in one's caste), and Sheela (the belief that one is 'good'), and when we remove these attributes we open ourselves to the eternal romance of the divine and to operate under the belief of Love being the Law of the heavens and beyond as the truth of the cosmos which can take us to higher planes of knowledge.

Love binds all hearts in a soft silken symphony. Seen through the eyes of Love, all beings are beautiful; all deeds are dedicated, and all thoughts are innocent. The World is one vast kin.

-Atharva Veda
